ELEMENTARY

Bethel’s Family Christian Academy’s Elementary program consists of grades PK4 - 5. Our teachers are certified as well as trained to teach from a holistic, Christ-centered curriculum that provides an enriched learning experience that enhances the child’s age-appropriate development.

Our program is designed to ensure that students learn to think critically and apply learning across the curriculum. It is aligned with objectives and skills required by the state. Technology is incorporated into our classrooms, and teachers use a variety of assessments and instructional strategies to support students’ needs. Students attend chapel on Tuesdays and Thursdays to enrich their spiritual growth.

1ST GRADE

  • Social Studies: The 1st grade curriculum builds upon early social studies concepts through literature and class discussions. Students create and use simple maps to draw conclusions about places' physical characteristics.
  • Mathematics: Students will use concrete objects to understand the foundational concepts of addition and subtraction and place value. They will also study patterns, sorting, counting, making math connections, and problem-solving.
  • Science: The 1st grade science curriculum uses simple investigations to develop skills of asking questions and gathering information to explore the wonders of God’s creation. Students also make measurements, construct explanations, and draw conclusions.
  • Language Arts: The 1st-grade language arts curriculum continues to develop oral language and communication skills while developing more independent readers and writers. Students participate in various instructional strategies, such as guided reading and writing, readers/writers workshops, and daily reading and writing activities.

2ND AND 3RD GRADES

  • Language Arts: The 2nd and 3rd grade curriculums focus on reading, grammar, writing skills, and vocabulary. In 2nd grade, students transition from reading text with many pictures to reading longer texts. In both grades, students learn how to develop, improve, and edit their creative writing. Students also practice and review vocabulary, listening skills, critical thinking, and analyzing different types of literature.
  • Social Studies: Students will continue to learn about American history, including branches of government, explorers, wars, and basic economic principles.
  • Mathematics: The 2nd grade curriculum will strengthen the foundation of addition and subtraction problems. The 3rd-grade curriculum will build on this strength, allowing students to move to multiplication and division problems. Students will evaluate, adapt, and select appropriate problem-solving strategies and tools.
  • Science Students: Students will use tools to plan and implement investigations and collect information. They will also make inferences, communicate conclusions, and make informed decisions. The goal is to stimulate students’ interest in science through STEAM-based and student-centered learning.

4TH AND 5TH GRADES

  • Social Studies: Students will study important events, issues, and people of the state of Texas. Students will examine Texas's history regarding human and natural characteristics from its early years to the present day.
  • Mathematics: Students create and apply math concepts more abstractly. They will strengthen place value skills, compare and order fractions and decimals, division, problem-solving, and ideas related to measurement and statistics.
  • Science: Students will identify components and processes of the natural world. They will also study the physical properties of matter and changes in matter, as well as the roles of living and nonliving components.
  • Language Arts: Through group and independent reading, students will continue to build their comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary skills. Students will read a combination of passages and novels and build on thinking critically while reading. Students will learn to write narrative essays, informational pieces, and poetry.

ENRICHMENT CLASSES

Students participate in enrichment classes to enrich the development of the whole child.

  • Physical Education: Students participate in activities that improve their fine and gross motor skills as they interact with their peers through organized movement and exercise.
  • Music: Students will learn listening skills as they accompany songs with simple instruments. Musical games, steady beats, and fun songs are all included in this class.
  • Art: Students will create and experiment with materials in new ways to explore creativity further.
  • Spanish: Students are introduced to Spanish vocabulary while participating in planned activities revolving around interactive games, songs, stories, and dialogue practice.
